We are seeking an experienced, multidisciplined wood machinist.

The suitable candidate will be ambitious, enthusiastic, and positive and will enjoy machining a wide variation of components for our in-house furniture range. The job is varied and in no way monotonous, with the furniture production spanning a huge variety of designs. Production is all from hardwood in Iroko and European Oak, using primarily traditional mortice and tenon joints, but also including comb joints, half lap panel joints etc.

We are looking for a long term relationship going forward for a person working with a team and on their own, on individual projects. Immediate start for the right candidate.

- Applicants will be experienced and proficient to set up, use and maintain a variety of traditional woodworking machines including saws, planer and thicknesser, morticer, tenoner, spindle moulder for straight and ring fence operations, router, and wide belt sander machines amongst others.

- The successful candidate will have an eye for detail and place high importance on accuracy and uniformity to a very high standard, to provide components which will be ready for the bench joiners to assemble furniture with minimal final fit adjustment to joints. You will have pride and enthusiasm to produce quality components ready to be constructed into the highest quality furniture.

- The workshop holds a stock of components for most of our designs, in both oak and Iroko. Apart from the machining of bespoke items the daily job will be to replenish components as the stock items are used to ensure that components will be available as and when required.

- The ability to work from cutting sheets and stock samples as well as studying and reading from drawings of bespoke items will be required. Many detailed components are machined from jigs and the setting of the jig to make the best use of the plank, along with placing in sympathy with the grain of the plank and avoid any imperfections in the wood, is an important part of the production. The preparation of cutting sheets for new designs will also be associated with the job.

- The ability to carry out set-up and calibration procedures for all equipment and accessories for all jobs.

- The machinist will be responsible for setting up cutting blocks and tooling involved with each job and be responsible for maintaining a routine for sharpening and the tidy organisation of tooling storage, as well maintenance and lubrication of machines.

- The applicant should be fit and strong as there is some heavy lifting of planks. (help available)

- Non Smoker
